Sam Gibson

I started here as Assistant Curate in July 2017, having been ordained Deacon in Birmingham Cathedral. My parents were Salvation Army officers so that was my earliest experience of faith, but I became a committed Christian as a teenager after stumbling upon my local parish church. I trained for ordination at St Stephen’s House where I studied for an MTh at Oxford. Before training I was finishing a PhD in Biblical Studies at Birmingham University, where I also did my first degrees. I found academic research rewarding but as time went by I knew God was calling me to serve in parish ministry. I’m still particularly passionate about teaching and opening up Scripture with people of all ages and backgrounds, and I always enjoy a good conversation about prayer and theology (and more!). I’m married to Charlotte who is a talented European linguist and cake decorator, who I met at University, and we’re blessed with two toddlers who keep us busy.
